To counter-act this cause of relapse, it helps to always think of oneself as a 'recovering problem gambler' as opposed to a 'recovered problem gambler' and, relatedly, understanding that a problem gambler can never become a normal gambler, no matter how long they were able to remain gamble-free. A common cause of relapse is getting complacent or confident in our ability to control ourselves after achieving some success in recovery.
